Looking at analytics from a broader point of view as not just a mere handful bunch of random numbers and data, if you look closely, you can easily find out there is a lot more to the story that this data has to tell about the dynamics of how your blog, website or online store is working.
There is always a chance of missing something when you are trying to make the most out of your site and it only makes sense to know WHAT?
Enter analytics solutions. You may come across a wide number of options that might seem tempting to try on. But with new policies in place like GDPR, Cookie policy declaration and the usage of the same will make it troublesome to make sure that your site reaches a wider audience.
To solve this problem there are options like Umami Analytics which does not store any cookies and any data that is stored in the database (Umami Cloud or Self hosted) will be hashed in a way that no identifiable information about a person is stored.
More on this later OR you can simply read more about this on their site at umami.is and docs here.
The other option I am exploring is, fetching analytics data from the Umami backend (self hosted, since it would be a custom solution) and displaying it on a mobile app like so:
This is just one example as the home screen of the app.
There will be more screens like:
– Independent pages, their referrers, devices, demographics (if applicable), and so on.
– Settings screen to modify the font size, theme of the app, change default home screen, enable or disable certain tiles like you can see on the top (Total Views and Total Visitors).
– Settings option to enable or disable Treemaps for busy business owners.
And the list goes on…
Current phase of the project is design, where I am looking at a few more design options for the app. The next stage would be to implement a simple home screen with actual data using REST API from either WP and any plugin that supports the REST API.
Once there is a good backing, I am looking forward to implementing a custom solution to work with umami and fetch out data from the self hosted Umami site.
Feel free to share your ideas below in the comments. You can look at this blog post as a Work in Progress post and there is a high chance I will add more info to this. New posts regarding this topic would be coming soon, too.
